Being saved is a very important matter. It is a matter of eternity. The problem is many people do not know they are or are not saved. If you listen to most evangelical preachers they will tell you to say a prayer where you confess you are a sinner and invite Jesus into your heart. They teach a person is saved without doing anything on their part other than saying a simple prayer.

The problem is; We do not find such instructions in the New Testament. There is not one example of Jesus or the apostles telling a person salvation is granted to person who says some kind of prayer. Jesus told Nicodemus he needed to be born of the water and the Spirit before he could enter
the kingdom. (John 3:3-5) The preacher told Saul he needed to arise and be baptized to wash away his sins. (Acts 22:16) Paul taught the Roman people that they needed to stop sinning, die to the old way of life, be buried in baptism, and be raised in the likeness of the resurrection of Christ. (Romans 6:1-14).

People who strive to be faithful to the Lord and His Word will make every effort to do the things the Lord has commanded. The difference is being saved or lost. It is a matter of eternity
