“What do you think about when you are alone?” “I wasn’t expecting the question. It came from a colleague in a staff meeting that was devoted
to a routine and mostly forgettable agenda. Out of the blue he was asking everyone in the room to share the kind of subjects they concentrated
on when they were on their own time and no one was expecting them to be creative.” (Normal Bales) As I read this paragraph, I wondered if I would be comfortable revealing  what I think about when I am alone. Are my thoughts directed toward the mundane or even worse? Are they thoughts that I could share with a group of church folk? Or are my private thoughts those that often pull me into some worldly activity. Everything we do is incubated in the mind. If we spend time thinking about perverse things, perverted behavior will inevitably follow. If the mind is centered on holy things, it will become much easier to maintain a holy pattern of life. Listen to the apostle Paul, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” (Romans 8:5) Holy living will become difficult if not impossible for the person
who mind the things of the flesh. It does not appear these words have reference to the exceeding sinful, but the things that distract the Christian
from possessing the mind of Christ. If business and commerce consumes our mental energy we will have little time to focus on the spiritual.
